Our Business is
Built on an Entrepreneurial Spirit.

Founded in 1979 by J.H. Boytinck & his family, Northern Developments was forged by the entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit found in the hearts and imaginations of so many early Albertans. Under the leadership and guidance of his grandson Arthur Boytinck, we have quietly grown to become one of the industry’s most respected and successful rural-focused commercial real estate developers.

We Take Enormous Pride in Our Land Stewardship, Partnerships with Municipalities, and in the Success of Our Tenants.

In 2022, our commitment to the substantial growth of our retail, industrial, and agricultural portfolio was reinforced with the appointment of Sidney Waskiewich as President, accompanied by the inclusion of Vice Presidents Melanie Ducholke and Todd Werre. With a new leadership team in place and long-term experienced staff, we are positioned to become one of Western Canada’s most agile and opportunistic rural-centric commercial development and investment groups.

Our dedication to enhancing the health, well-being, and financial stability of rural residents by investing in their communities is not counted in years but rather decades.

At our core is an uncompromising desire to assist in the growth and sustainability of Western Canadian communities.  Each land deal we make seeks to help harness the tremendous tenant expansion and community building opportunities available in these rural centers. As non-urban municipalities struggle to retain residents and maintain a tax base, “right-sized” retail, industrial, and agricultural developments are becoming essential to their future prosperity. Our experience and ability to work with local governments on land assembly, permitting, and approvals make for ideal construction conditions for both tenants and residents.  Fast and efficient buildouts are a key feature of our success for all parties involved.

We are Dedicated to Your Business, Your Community, and Your Investment.

At Northern, we value perseverance and have assembled a team always willing to ‘roll up their sleeves’ to find new revenue opportunities, find creative solutions to problems, and produce more efficient building and management methods. But our true strength is our ability to cultivate prosperous relationships with tenants, municipalities, and investors.

Entrepreneurship. Teamwork. Ingenuity. Community. For 44-plus years these core principles have shaped our culture and will do so for the next 44 years. For this is who we are and that is the Northern way.
